German Chancellor to meet with leaders of opposition parties
German Chancellor Angela Merkel (PhD), who will be visiting Addis Ababa next week, declined to address the House of Peoples’ Representatives, which will return from recess for the second year term of the fifth parliament.
The TPLF-led government, shaken by widespread protests, declared Sunday a six-month long state of emergency.
The titular Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn said in a televised address to the nation that the state of emergence was needed to repulse what he called “the danger posed by anti-peace elements and foreign enemies on the peace, security and stability of the nation.”
Former US Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs, Herman Cohen, said that he believes the current crises in Ethiopia was a result of domination by Tigrians over the economy and politics of the country as well as putting in place a “fake” federal political arrangement.
There is ample evidence that the Ethiopian regime uses food aid as a political tool, Anuradha Mittal, founder and executive director of the Oakland Institute said on Thursday.
